Racial Inequity in the Arts
Art is a powerful tool for broadening our perspectives and building stronger connections with others. Still, the underrepresentation of Black/African American and Hispanic/Latino artists is a major issue that holds back creative industries and society.
While museums and cultural spaces highlight the work and stories of these artists, underserved artists often need help to gain recognition and support in the mainstream art scene.
We need to break down the barriers that have kept Black/African American and Hispanic/Latino artists on the fringe and give them the spotlight they deserve—this means creating more opportunities to connect with a wider audience through exhibitions, performances, galleries, and online platforms.
Let’s promote racial equity in the arts and a more diverse and inclusive creative community.

Racial Inequity in the Sciences
The representation of Black/African American and Hispanic/Latino individuals in the scientific workplace and science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) degree programs is lacking. It's time to take action. Recent research by the Pew Research Center indicates that the current STEM degree attainment trends are unlikely to bring about any significant progress in reducing these disparities.
Also, Black/African American and Hispanic/Latino people often have more health problems and trouble getting health care because of long-term unfairness in the system. Compared to other racial and ethnic groups, they're more likely to have trouble finding enough food, have diabetes, and have problems with health insurance. They're also less likely to get basic health care, help with mental health issues, and have access to wellness resources.
To address these disturbing issues, it's critical to work towards providing access to quality STEM education for Black/African American and Hispanic/Latino individuals from an early age to higher education. Ensuring these communities have equitable access to resources and opportunities in STEM areas is equally important. We must also research and take action to make health care fairer and understand how different situations affect the health of Black/African American and Hispanic/Latino people. Further, we must ensure that Black/African American and Hispanic/Latino individuals have equitable access to wellness and mental health resources that aim to enhance their well-being.
Together, we can reduce these disparities and make a lasting difference.

The Creary De La O Family Foundation (CDF) supports arts and science initiatives important to Black/African American and Hispanic/Latino communities. Arts are an essential part of society. The arts teach and unite us, inspiring us to discuss fairness, racial equity, and cultural history. Science can improve our lives and help create a future where everyone is treated fairly and has a chance to succeed. This is especially true for people from underserved racial and ethnic groups.
CDF’s work helps society connect with and appreciate Black/African American and Hispanic/Latino cultures. We also work to hasten scientific discoveries that can improve the health and well-being of Black/African American and Hispanic/Latino people.

Our vision is a world where Black/African American and Hispanic/Latino artists and scientists are fully represented, celebrated, valued and recognized for their contributions to both cultural and scientific discovery and innovation. We also see a world where diversity, equity, and inclusion are recognized as critical to our understanding of the human experience, advancement of scientific knowledge, and the creation of a more equitable and just society.
